Honestly I can see it, interns don't get paid that much so if Brian had commuting costs / lunch costs etc that'd add up over a 5 day week. Here it's cost €5 in and out each day on the bus / transport so €25, with the average lunch costing between €7 - €11, so around €100 euro a week.

If they had of been allowed WFH two days a week that probably could of eleviated the pressures of this a little.

In terms of the tech stack, what did the job advertisement state? React + Node.js or Flutter? He could of come in hoping to learn one thing and gone home dissapointed as he was not learning a technology that he really wanted to use.

I am a firm believer of letting people work from where they want to work from, they don't need to be in an office, especially if the full time staff aren't in the offiec 5 days a week, then what's the point of them being there if this "Face to face" cannot be achieved due to the absense of full time staff. In my experience zoom, screen sharing, and being able to quickly link interns / co ops to resources and pair program that way has proven to be easier than sitting at one computer and telling them where to go.
